Angels & Demons is the latest mixtape from Christian Hip-Hop group Urban Vessels. They came to us for cover art for their upcoming Angels And Demons mixtape. Looking to highlight the contrast between good and evil, dual covers were created: a black cover as well as a white.

To promote the mixtape, the first single was chosen as the backing track for the 20 second promo clip featuring the white cover. A second clip of the track was used for the subsequent black version.

Creative Process

The creative process consisted of finding source imagery to highlight the stark contrast between good and evil. We decided to use an image of the Saint Michel terrassant le Demon statue in Paris. After isolating it from the background and converting it to a grayscale image, it gave us the necessary image to represent the cover of the mixtape.

The "Be Bold Lyric Video" is an electrifying and visually captivating project developed for James R. Mackey II. This project aims to complement the artist's music with stunning visuals that engage and resonate with the audience. The video is produced in crystal-clear 4K resolution to provide a visually immersive experience for viewers.

The video was produced in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second to give the visuals a clean and smooth look. This was to ensure exceptional clarity and detail, providing a cinematic experience for viewers.

The Be Bold video employs blending animation, live-action footage, and dynamic visual effects to bring the song's lyrics to life. Finally, a tailored and completely custom visual world was designed to match the mood and message of the song, creating a cohesive visual narrative. The video also features cutting-edge visual effects, including particle animations, and color grading to enhance the overall viewing experience.

Creative Process

The project began with an in-depth audio analysis of "Be Bold", identifying key musical phrases and beat patterns. This detailed breakdown of the song allowed for us to draw inspiration to build out the world shown in the video. "Be Bold" is the first single on Mackey's "GraceWorld" EP and would set the tone for the color scheme used throughout the project.

Typography selection was crucial, with fonts chosen for their ability to convey both literal meaning and abstract emotion through form. A carefully chosen bold sans-serif typeface created visual dominance and hierarchy, but was deconstructed throughout the video reflecting a futuristic, video game feel.

The color palette was designed to mirror the energy of the song. It transitions from cool, subdued blues and purples in the ambient beginning, through vibrant teals and greens as the energy builds, culminating in warm oranges and reds at the track's peak. This color evolution visually represents the growing intensity of Mackey's music.

Overview

In July of 2022, we were presented with an opportunity to help to create a birthday presentation for the Nelson Mandela Foundation. We needed to produce an evocative motion graphics display in honor of Nelson Mandela’s birthday which has been deemed Mandela Day. This ambitious project’s highlight was its showcase on one of the most iconic digital canvases in the world—the Nasdaq Tower in New York’s Times Square.

Purpose and Vision

The project aimed to honor Nelson Mandela’s legacy and reinforce his enduring message of social justice and unity. By utilizing the Nasdaq Tower, the foundation sought to amplify its reach, presenting Mandela's ideals to a global audience in a space that represents international collaboration and innovation.

Display on the Nasdaq Tower

The Nasdaq Tower, standing 7 stories tall, is one of the most prominent digital screens in Times Square. Its strategic location ensures maximum visibility to millions of visitors daily. This setting was ideal for amplifying the Mandela Foundation's message.

Technical Specifications

The final motion graphics piece was rendered in a resolution to match the Nasdaq Tower’s advanced display capabilities. Particular attention was given to contrast and brightness, ensuring the visuals stood out even in daylight. Lastly, careful consideration needed to be taken for placement of images and text as the Nasdaq Tower screen has windows spread throughout.

The animation was structured as a 60-second loop, which played several times throughout the presentation date. It premiered on July 18, 2024—Nelson Mandela’s birthday. A live unveiling ceremony took place in Times Square, featuring representatives from the Nelson Mandela Foundation and community leaders. Passersby paused to watch the display, many taking photos and sharing the experience on social media. The Nasdaq Tower’s central location and digital prominence helped create a ripple effect, with Mandela’s message trending on social media platforms that day.
